As a parent with children in our schools, I understand the challenges our students face and the importance of addressing their diverse needs. My top priority is to ensure that every child receives a high-quality education that prepares them for success in college, career, and life. This means prioritizing support for educators, increasing funding for teacher raises, and implementing innovative programs that challenge and inspire our youth. MEET AMARI
Introducing Amari Johnson, a dedicated young man born and raised in the bustling city of Detroit, Michigan. From a young age, Amari was nurtured by his single father, a small business owner in the community, who imparted upon him the values of hard work and perseverance. Witnessing firsthand the impact of his father's commitment to both business and community, Amari realized his own passion for service and making a positive difference in the world.
In 2011, Amari and his father made the courageous decision to relocate to Atlanta, Georgia, seeking new opportunities and a fresh start. This marked the beginning of his high school journey at Westlake University, where he excelled academically and graduated with honors in 2015.
However, Amari's educational path was not without its hurdles. From an early age, he found himself enrolled in special education programs, grappling with the challenges imposed by "No Child Left Behind" policies. Despite facing adversity, it was during his junior year that Amari resolved to advocate for his own educational path. He fought tirelessly to break free from the constraints of his "IEP" (Individualized Education Plan) and carve out his own route towards academic success.
Today, Amari stands as a living testament to the power of resilience and determination. His experiences have forged within him a steadfast commitment to ensuring that every child has access to quality education and the support they need to flourish.
